In the year 624CE the Muslims of
Medina heard about a caravan
going to Mecca (Makkah) from
Syria full of goods, including
weapons to be used against the
Muslims. This caravan was
accompanied by a leader of the
Makkans. The Muslims decided to
raid the caravan and stop the
weapons from reaching Mecca.
The Caravan leader sent a
message to Mecca to warn them.

So when the Makkans heard that Muslims
planned on stopping their caravan and
possibly even attacking it - the Makkans
decided they need to teach the Muslims a
lesson!

They gathered an army of a 1000
soldiers with lots of camels and horses
and marched towards Medina.
This led to the first
ever battle between
the Muslims of Medina
and the non Muslims
of Makkah. The battle
of Badr occurred in
the second year after
the Prophet had left
Makkah at a place
called 'Badr' which
was just outside of
Madinah.
The Muslims
were not
expecting such
a large army to
come to attack -
but the
Makkans were
so paranoid
about the
Muslims.
When the Muslims heard that the Makkans
were coming to fight them - The Muslims
decided that they had to defend
themselves. The only way to do this was to
meet the Makkans and fight them.
The Muslims had only over
313 soldiers in total and
the Makkans were 1000.

Both armies met at Badr. The war had
begun.
The Muslims had only 3 horses and 70
camels between the 313 men, whereas
the Makkans had many many more.
UPToB
They began firing arrows at each other.
The Makkans were not too enthusiastic
about fighting anymore after their long
journey from Makkah and were hungry
and tired. So once the battle begun
many of them started fleeing (running
away) because they were scared.
The battle itself
only lasted a few
hours and was
over very soon.
The Muslims had
won.
For every 1 Muslim
soldier there were 3
Makkans to fight - so
how did the Muslims
win
?
2 - In the Quran
God says how
thousands of
angels came to
help the Muslims
fight so that the
message of
believing in one
God would spread
over Arabia.
Task 2: Use the lesson content and some
research to write detailed paragraph response
to these questions.
